First Line:
It was warm that day in March, and the station was crowded, full, it seemed, not only of people but of cheerfulness...and the noisy chatter of gay farewells. Yet amid the laughter, one girl walked alone...with sadness in her eyes.
Synopsis:
Fay agrees to marry Michael, but still has a yearning to be an actress. When she meets her new neighbor who is an actor, she falls for him and decides not to marry Michael. She follows Richard to London and eventually they get married. Fay takes up acting and is a success, but Richard is not. His pride hurt by the more successful career of his wife, Richard became bitter and moody. The end comes when he stepped out on to the road in front of a bus. Fay returns home to discover that Michael had been planning to get engaged to Fay's sister.
