Walt left a note: he's quit as Sheriff rather than face the Larango Gang. Wayne meets him at Tumble Rocks, their stomping grounds as kids. Walt, a sham sheriff, can't face the gang. Wayne, the real fighter who masquerades as a storekeeper, goes for the gang - without guns. As he's caught, Walt rides to the rescue. In a rough-and-tumble shootout, they beat the gang down. And everyone agrees Walt's resignation was just a ruse to catch the gang!

Foley of the Fighting 5th
Professor Phineas, last seen flying balloons, returns in a glider! He proposes the Army adopt them. "Nonsense," says the Colonel, "he's a crackpot!" No one will go up in a glider, under threat of court martial, as the Colonel rides to a remote outpost. But a messenger says the Arapaho have mined the outpost with flammable materials! Phineas and Foley take off in the glider, intercept the Colonel, and shoot at the fort, igniting it, to drive the Arapaho from cover. The Colonel writes a recommendation for gliders and a citation for Foley!

Johnny Thunder
Johnny Thunder [John Tane]
The Drygulch Gang sends a bogus Johnny Thunder to kidnap schoolteacher John Tane (Johnny's secret identity). Tane is tied to a slingshot-tree: if the rope is shot through, he'll be catapulted to death! Why him? He's bait to lure out Johnny Thunder! Tane tilts his eyeglasses to burn through the rope, is flung into a river, and comes out with guns blazing as - Johnny Thunder! The gang surrenders. "No one kin ever trap Johnny Thunder - no matter what scheme some smart aleck thinks up!"
