Lord Dragunsun [Dracula]; Jack Halloran [Jonathan Harker]; Vampirella; Elisabetha; Mia Halloran [Mina Harker]
The kingdom of Yugoslavia, 1941.
The story shifts back-and-forth between the present and 1941. In 1941, Dragunsun returns from battling the Germans to discover that his wife, believing him dead, has taken her own life. In the present, Vampirella senses that events are following the narrative of the novel about Dracula, but she and Jack are unable to stop Dracula from taking Mia. Back in 1941, it is Jonathan who senses something is wrong as he leads a band of vampire hunters to find Dracula.

Patterns keep repeating across time. In 1462, Vlad Tepes returns from defending Christendom from a Muslim invasion to discover that Elisabetha, believing him dead, has taken her own life. In another time, Mina Harker offers herself to Dracula as Jonathan and Vampirella lead a group to the castle. They arrive too late and discover Mina dead. Vampirella senses that they have done all this before but doesn't understand her role in the narrative.

The Carpathian foothills, where the time, for us, is unspecified--
In modern New York, Dracula tells Jack about the Order of the Dragon and how they plan to use Vampirella to take his place in the eternal narrative. In the past, the Szgany are transporting a captive Vampirella in a casket to the castle. Harker leads an attack on the gypsies but Drina causes an avalanche and only she, Harker and Vampirella remain alive. Vampirella bites Harker on the neck while whispering "Remember" to him. Dracula appears and leads Vampirella off to begin her new role.
