Spalding discovers information that the original articles on the black spheres were planted, but can't yet tell Luthor that as Luthor is about to interview Joker. At the interview they banter back and forth a while, but Joker reveals he has one of the spheres, and that it's a keyhole. Spalding activates it, enlarging it. Luthor leaves the room, and RoboLois pushes Spalding into the sphere, and it shrinks back to small size. When Luthor asks what happened, RoboLois blames Joker.

The space-located black spheres have all moved together. Luthor is going up there to gain their power, when Larfleeze interrupts. He reveals that Glomulus has the last Earth-located sphere, and he wants to know how to use their power, threatening Luthor and his people. Luthor shows he doesn't care about that by shooting Finch dead. They fight, until Luthor is able to push Larfleeze into the sphere he got from Joker. After gaining the sphere Glomulus had, Luthor and RoboLois launch into space. Larfleeze comes out of another sphere, saying what’s in there he doesn't want (for the first time).

As Luthor and RoboLois approach the black spheres in orbit, Brainiac's ship arrives. Luthor acts surprised, but then reveals that he knew that Brainiac was behind many of the recent events, including RoboLois' betrayal. They fight, trying to outthink each other, but Luthor finally gets the upper hand, and breaks Brainiac's neck. While drones carry Brainiac off, Luthor activates the spheres, and the Earth-bound ones join them to form a portal. A powerful creature comes out. But Luthor was ready for it, and uses nanites from RoboLois to combine with it.
