One outlaw on the cover looks like the classic Rawhide Kid: flat white hat with conchos, cavalry shirt, Indian armbands, but pre-dates Atlas's Rawhide Kid comic. Did Gil Kane's design influence the Rawhide Kid's look a couple of years later?

He finds hidden caves holding the stolen cattle - and a stolen train used to ferry them to market! Riding along the train top, Wayne guns down the gang, then splits before they can see two sheriffs.

Another brave has lost his mind from the "great mystery" of the Valley of the Dark Moon. Strong Bow dares to venture there, despite a vision from Chief Sharp Fang he'll be crushed by a bear. In the valley, Strong Bow drinks from a spring and sees the terrible visions - but they're men in bear costumes! The chief doped the spring with herbs to twist men's minds because he wished to keep the valley for his gang. He repents and will others to hunt the plentiful game there. Strong Bow warns, "If you break your word, I will return with vengeance!"

Johnny Thunder [John Tane]; Swift Deer; Black Cloud; Frozen River
Behind every throne is an unseen hand which wards off the plots of evil!
Johnny's young Indian friend, Swift Deer, who idolizes JT, is appointed Chief for the next month. Johnny rides out, but vows to secretly see Swift Deer has no trouble. Two would-be chiefs try to assassinate the young chief, but JT lassoes them for the dark. When a maiden falls into the river, Swift Deer dives to the rescue, but JT must keep the villains from interfering - underwater. Finally he shoots their last attempted arrow shots and chases them off. Swift Deer's father is proud. "I am happy to see that no dark clouds marred your reign, my son!"
