Joyce has a crush on Don but he isn’t interested in her. She rejects Tommy’s love. When Don goes into the service, she writes to him frequently, and tells her friends they’re “practically engaged!” Don returns with a British wife, Madge, and Joyce decides to break them up. She arranges for Madge to think she and Don are having an affair, but he forces Joyce to confess the truth. Tommy makes Joyce admit she’s been lying and he says he still loves her; she agrees to change.

On her way to live with her military father in Germany, Susan meets and falls in love with Kevin, a civilian military employee. Although warned that he’s a ladies’ man, Susan refuses to give him up. She tricks soldier Greg into driving her to the city where Kevin is working; when Kevin learns what she did, he’s afraid it will affect his career. The military police pick up Greg but he doesn’t snitch on Susan. Susan realises he’s a better match than Kevin would be.

Nancy performs at the servicemen’s canteen but only because she thinks it’ll help her career. Some of the other girls falsely tell Nancy that sailor Jack is a good friend of a theatrical agent, so Nancy cultivates Jack’s friendship. She learns he doesn’t know the agent, but it doesn’t really matter, because they’re in love.

Army nurse Vicky is engaged to pilot Peter. She learns he has been blinded and doesn’t want to be a burden to her. She arranges a transfer to the hospital where he’s staying and introduces herself as “Jane Knight,” his new nurse. Vicky tries to help Peter regain his will to live. An operation will restore Peter’s sight. He admits to Vicky that he knew it was her all the time.
