In this version of the story, as in the original theatrical animated shorts, the "housekeeper" was drawn as the African American maid character known as "Mammy Two-Shoes", with skin coloring reflective of that character. For the reprint in Tom and Jerry (Western, 1962 Series) #302 (January 1978), the character's skin coloring was modified to have her appear as Caucasian - again following some of the original shorts that "recast" her as an "Irish Maid". In both instances, as well as in the shorts, the character is never seen above the shoulders.

Unofficial title is a play on "Mouse Cleaning", the title of a 1948 Tom and Jerry theatrical short, which has been omitted from DVD collections and banned from TV viewing.

Hey, Wuff! Look what I just found... a keen book on animals!
Charlie's cousin, Cuthbert Coyote, angrily lectures Charlie on how any "self-respectin' coyote [should] be chasin' chickens" instead of squirrels and prairie dogs. Enter Ashley Wilkes Penguin, a lost and excentric escapee from a southern zoo, who is wandering the desert while trying to find his way to the South Pole - and whom Charlie believes to be a chicken. Can Wuff and Sammy keep the overly-obliging gentlemanly penguin out of Charlie's hungry clutches?

MGM synergy between movies and comics: Ashley Wilkes (the penguin's namesake), a quintessential gentleman of the Old South, was a fictional character from the 1939 MGM film "Gone with the Wind", and the 1936 novel upon which it was based.
