April 1805 -- the port of Chatham on the coast of England
Synopsis:
Jack Hoyton joins the Royal Navy, and slowly adjusts to life on blockade duty. When a surreptitious landing in France is attacked, crew member Hewitt is separated, later rejoining to report that the French port is but lightly guarded. Jack joins a raiding party to seize the fort, but all are captured -- the press-ganged Irish Hewitt has traded the ship for a chance to escape. The 12 year-old Jack slips through prison bars and warns the ship, which is able to fight off a larger French vessel and seize the port. Jack is commended, and seems set fair for a naval career.
