As it was in olden days, when chivalrous knights in armor sought combat for glory and adventure...

Burt Rolfe; Henri; Lt. Eddie Blackton (death); the Germans (villains, some die)
Prologue: he had been an American in Paris, and because he'd loved Paris, and because the drums had rolled and the trumpets had called
Burt had longed for the day when he would be invited to be a pilot for the famed Lafayette Escadrille instead of being in the horrid, muddy trenches on the ground. He longed for the freedom of soaring in the air like a bird, and, one day, he gets his chance. Unfortunately, what he doesn't know is that he is replacing a downed pilot, Lt. Blackton, whose locker he know inherits.
