The two main characters are drawn in the style of the Jewish mouse and Polish pig found in the pages of Art Spiegelman's graphic novel Maus. Herschel is Harvey Pekar's Yiddish name and "schnorrer" is the Yiddish word for someone who sponges off of other people. The final panel shows Herschel in a t-shirt that reads "On strike against NBC" (the custom-made t-shirt which Pekar infamously wore on David Letterman's show).
