Esther, known to her boss as employee number 224, has been deliberately letting her work suffer because she knew it was the only way she could speak to him. She is a qualified lab assistant, but took the packaging job as a temporary measure. Jack initially refuses her request for a promotion. But when he learns his grandmother is coming he knows he needs to come up with a fiancée because he wrote to her that he was engaged. Fearing the financial implications of disappointing his grandmother, he agrees to Esther's promotion if she will pretend to be his fiancé.
