Synopsis:
Against her parents' wishes, Lois marries Yan and follows him to China. But Lois has difficulty adapting to the Chinese customs and the hostility of her new mother-in-law. When Yan and Lois announce that they are having a child, Lois learns that it was the Chinese custom for the grandmother to be the primary caregiver for the child, not the mother. When the child arrives, Lois is unable to take it anymore. She sneaks the child out of the house one night and boards a boat back to America, where she tells the story to her friend Susan.
