Superman wakes up after beating Doomsday, and the Justice League arrives. Superman takes off to avoid Lex Luthor's examinations, and is joined by Krypto. But Superman finds himself feeling more and more angry and violent. Lois uses psychic powers to get information. The Fortress does not recognize Superman, so he returns to Metropolis.

Superman tries to control the effects of inhaling Doomsday's spores, but he continues to transform. Lana learns that the reason Smallville residents are still in comas is due to their brain energy being sent into space, and informs Wonder Woman. Lois talks to Metallo about a mission. Steel tries to help but ends up fighting the Atomic Skull. Superman battles Metallo while trying to save him. A Kryptonite cloud is dispersed in the atmosphere. This just ends up making Superman transform further into Doomsday.

Lana Lang and Steel head into space to trace what is keeping Smallville in a coma. The Doomsday-transformed Superman encounters Red Lantern Supergirl. She sends Superman to stop Harak from destroying the planet of the Char, a race that invaded Krypton. Things don't go well. Lana figures out that Lois is behind the psychic attacks just as she and Steel find the Cyborg Superman.

Martian Manhunter, Baka, and Ghost Soldier try to help Superman stay in control and help against Brainiac. Superman frees Lois and she and Metallo join the fight. Batman's group gets rid of the Kryptonite in the air, enabling Superman to change back. They beat Brainiac's robots, but the fight isn't over.

Superman returns to Earth after defeating Brainiac, and Supergirl informs him of the costs of the battle. Superman returns to Smallville and finds Lana Lang, and finds out they have things under control. Feeling a bit useless and depressed, Clark posts a "Who Needs Superman, Anyway" story on his blog, and Lois comes over to tear him a new one. She writes a counter-point for the Daily Planet. Meanwhile, Lana is attacked in a graveyard.
