Fay thinks he might be about to tell her he loves her, but he actually wants her to help him tell Betty that he is engaged as he shows her a photo of an ordinary, rather plump girl.

They decide to spend the evening together and Margaret finds herself becoming jealous of the girl he was intending to go out with. The next week, the only costume left for her is a Spanish outfit. Worried that Bill might think she changed her costume on purpose to match his, he arrives alone in a cowboy outfit to match her.

The next morning Tessa gets a note, obviously written by Susie, telling her to walk to work. Not wanting to cause trouble for the orphan girl who wants to keep James to herself, Tessa declines James offer of a lift to work. But James shows up to take Tessa to lunch and surprises her by proposing.
