Fay is engaged as a dancing partner and believes she is leaving Matt forever. She joins Betty and both of them fall for the hard-driving lead of their dancing trio, though he seems to have his own life outside of work. After getting a date for a London club, he invites them out to celebrate. Betty starts feeling ill so Fay gets a chance to be alone with Colin. Fay thinks he might be about to tell her he loves her, but he actually wants her to help him tell Betty that he is engaged as he shows her a photo of an ordinary, rather plump girl.

Three months ago, she had met Frank and George at the dance hall and they spent the rest of the evening monopolising her. Pretending to be childhood friends, it soon becomes clear that George and Frank are trying to cut each other out, but she can't decide which one she likes best. Then, on that fateful day when they went to the zoo, Frank makes an insulting remark about George and George walks off. Suddenly, there is a shout that a snake is loose. They turn to see that the snake has George trapped against a locked door.

Margaret shows up in a Western rig-out for a Fancy Dress Ball only to discover that she is a week early. She is about to leave when laughter reveals that someone else made the same mistake, showing up in a matador costume. They decide to spend the evening together and Margaret finds herself becoming jealous of the girl he was intending to go out with. The next week, the only costume left for her is a Spanish outfit. Worried that Bill might think she changed her costume on purpose to match his, he arrives alone in a cowboy outfit to match her.

Patsy is jealous of the couple next door who are about to have a baby. One night she is wakened by a tremendous thumping from next door and peers out the window to see Lewis carefully helping Eileen into a taxi. The next morning, Patsy wakes to the smell of burning bacon and goes next door to help Lewis. The door is opened by Lewis' brother Roger who has come to help while Eileen is in the hospital. At first, Roger thinks the experience is going to keep him a bachelor for keeps, but soon he and Patsy find themselves attracted to each other.

Having come to live on a houseboat, Tessa has gone to a River Carnival with her next door neighbors, but on the way back their boat overturns. After the first chill shock of the water, it was rather fun until they came up to the houseboats and found Susie waiting. The next morning Tessa gets a note, obviously written by Susie, telling her to walk to work. Not wanting to cause trouble for the orphan girl who wants to keep James to herself, Tessa declines James offer of a lift to work. But James shows up to take Tessa to lunch and surprises her by proposing.
