Spencer Smythe sends his Spider-Slayer Robot after Spidey for Norman Osborn on the promise that a successful capture will provide a special chair for his crippled son. The robot accidentally captures Flash Thompson who has dressed up as Spidey during a dinner party to impress Felicia Hardy. Reporter Eddie Brock witnesses the capture and provides a pic and a scoop for Jonah. Spidey has to rescue Flash from Osborn and company but the elder Smythe is killed in the battle. When the dust clears, Eddie is fired by Jonah for providing a faulty story. Kingpin steps in to mentor the orphaned Alistaire.
