The Lone Ranger and Tonto find a man in a cabin who has been stabbed. Tonto stays with him, while the Lone Ranger goes for help. The assailants, led by a man named "Dagger," return and take Tonto prisoner. The gang intends to stop a stagecoach and take Congressman Reynard and hold him for ransom.

The Lone Ranger is on the trail of Red Hawkins, a man accused of killing a Texas Ranger. The Lone Ranger and Silver get caught in an explosion meant to blow up a bridge. The Lone Ranger is saved by Hawkins wife from drowning and Hawkins reluctantly helps her bring the Lone Ranger to shore. After recovering, the Lone Ranger takes Hawkins to jail, but vows to find proof that Hawkins didn't kill the Texas Ranger.
