Gaylord Du Bois writer credit per Gaylord Du Bois, Gaylord Du Bois's Account Books Sorted by Title compiled from the original account books by Randall W. Scott (Michigan State University Libraries 1985) 203 leaves ; 28 cm. -- Photocopy of computer printout. -- Call no.: PN6727.D77 A2S35 1985, page 5, which states: "Uncle Wiggily. 10p. For Animal Comics #20. Sent December 4, 1944." (He skipped in his numbering from #18 written the previous month, to #20 for the story written this month, but these were just personal account books, never intended as a conclusive publication record.)

The page count was reduced to 8 pages, but is told in what must have been the original 80 panel script. Had it been published as the original 10-page story, it would have averaged ten 8-panel pages (8-8-8-8-8-8-8-8-8-8 or 7-8-8-9-8-8-9-8-8-7 or some other combination). As published, the panel-count per page (averaging 10 panels per page) presents as: 10-11-10-9-10-10-10-10. Artist H. R. McBride makes it look effortless, a testimony both to his graphic skill and talent, and to Du Bois's script narrative.

Disclose Notes: With no human characters, style is hard to identify. Could be Gollub, but long thin muzzles on animals and minimal shading suggest Noonan. Gollub drew all the Chuck Wagon Charlie stories and several other pieces included in Animal Comics after No.18, which has his first story for this title.
