School teacher Carter Slade is on his way to a new job in Bison Bend when he comes upon a gang dressed up as Indians killing a family. Attempting to stop them he is almost killed. Jamie Jacobs, the only surviving member of the family finds Carter and tries to help him. They are both found by Flaming Star, an Indian who believes that Carter Slade is the promised white warrior that the spirits told him about. He gives Carter some stardust that enables him to become the Night Rider. Carter takes Jamie to live with him and defeats Blackie and Jason Bartholomew's gang as the Night Rider.
