Jack, th' whole world seems suddenly changed--
After Jack spurns her advances, Joy decides to set a new altitude record for gliding. Despite Jack and Downwind's warnings, she dives into a thunderhead and her glider is torn apart. She parachutes down, but lands hard and is injured. Jack has to fly her to the hospital, despite not having a pilot's license. Joy needs a blood transfusion and the only one with her blood type is Dixie Lee.

Beth Walsh pleads with Tom to stay home, fearing that Puglio, having broken jail and sworn to get even with Tom for putting him in jail, may harm Baby Rose, but Tom trusts Bonnie Lass, their snow white Collie will be protection enough, and heads out to the station house. Puglio kidnaps Baby Rose. Tom and Bonnie Lass give pursuit. Cornered, Puglio threatens the baby, Tom drops his gun, Puglio pulls his, but Bonnie Lass charges in the nick of time, biting Puglio, who drops the baby and his gun before falling down the ravine to his death.
