Detective Sgt. Quinn; Officer Barrett; Dr. John J. Whitney; Dr. West; Mr. Landon; Gus McGruder (villain)
At 12 noon, Dr. John J. Whitney parks and locks his new sedan
Based on what Dr West says, Dr Whitney realizes his car's been stolen and taken to McGruder's Garage. He finds it there, so he is sapped. On waking he enlists a cop, but his car has been changed by now. Det. Sgt. Quinn takes charge, and they go to McGruder's. Landon, whom McGruder phoned to pick up the car he wanted, shows up. Quinn asks if he has a priority certificate to buy a 1942 car, pressing McGruder to allow inspection of the car for fingerprints. McGruder blusters and opens a desk drawer. Quinn plugs him, and finds likely incriminating gas coupons (stolen? counterfeit?) in the drawer.

war
Raipori; Captain Roche; Lt. Price
Young Raipori of tiny Temoa Island has sailed 500 miles in his outrigger canoe to beg medicine for his sick sister, Maliti. Capt. Roche of U.S. Seaplane Tender Javelin sympathizes, wishing he could spare a seaplane. The medicine is no problem. A Jap Destroyer is reported standing before the island. Roche asks Raipori for use of his canoe. "One of our boys with an all-over suntan can take your place in the proa," and deliver time bombs to the Jap ship. Raipori declares he will deliver the bombs, and they will take medicine to Maliti. Mission success! Maliti will get the medicine soon.

Gaylord Du Bois script credit per "Gaylord Du Bois's Account Books Sorted by Title compiled from the original account books by Randall W. Scott" (1985), page 78: "Medicine for Maliti. text for Popular Comics, January 1945."

Second appearance of Raipori. This story is a sequel to the author's text story, "A Matter of Conscience," in Popular Comics #101.

The frequent Du Bois theme of race appears in Bush's reference to skin color ("One of our boys with an all-over suntan"), which addresses in a backhanded way the idea that in WWII's Pacific Theater Of Operations, the allies war with the Empire of Japan, the light-skin color of a Caucasian would be a detriment to success in a covert mission.
