The Federale Vigo explains Juarez "borrowed" the Confederate gold to finance his revolution. The gang drifts away. Blueberry stands court-martial for stealing the gold and is sentenced to 30 years in a Federal penitentiary...

Continuing... Dying by inches in Francisville Prison, Blueberry bluffs to reveal the Confederate gold. Warden Kelly sends him by train, but it's ambushed by Blake's bandits, who invite Blueberry to join. He moves on to Santa Fe and Guffie Palmer, a retired madame. Blake shows up with a mission: escort "Marmaduke" to Colorado, as "Angel Face" secretly practices sharpshooting with a take-down rifle. They reach Durango as President Grant visits - meet Warden Kelly! Blueberry will be tagged as the president's assassin, while "disgruntled gentlemen" seize the country's reins...
