When Steve finds out, he confronts Jon and says Madge is “a sick girl” who doesn’t care who she marries “as long as it’s soon!” Jon returns to his family and Steve gives Madge the brush-off.

To get back at Johnny, Cathy accepts Dex’s marriage proposal, but then changes her mind because Dex is a snob. Cathy tells Johnny he is “abysmally ignorant” and “rich OR poor people are people!” Johnny apologises and they reconcile.
