Duncan MacBane; Edward Smith (1930s surveyor); tavern keeper
In the Scottish highlands of Inverness, the natives who live near Culloden often avoid a certain road leading across the moors.
Centuries ago, Duncan MacBane, "a man who dabbled in the black arts and who consorted with witches and sorcerers and held satanic revels", lived in a dark and foreboding mansion. One night, as a result of his activities, the mansion was mysteriously destroyed by fire leaving no sign of MacBane's remains. The mansion stood on the moors as a shunned hulk, until one night in the 1930s...

A look at many of the Gold Key Comics on sale in October 1968, highlighting the 25-cent giant Mickey Mouse Surprise Party. Also focus blurbs on Doctor Solar Man of the Atom, Daniel Boone, Tarzan of the Apes, Turok Son of Stone, The Lone Ranger, The Jetsons, The Flintstones, Yogi Bear, Hanna-Barbera Super TV Heroes, Huckleberry Hound, and Walt Disney Comics Digest. No issue numbers are given. The image of Mickey Mouse used in this promo does not look as if it originated with Western Publishing. It is more likely that it was supplied by the Walt Disney Studios - and appears to have been drawn by Floyd Gottfredson, who was still drawing the Mickey Mouse daily newspaper strip, as he had since 1930. Gottfredson was also known for character publicity artwork such as this. The figure of Mickey is drawn in the style with which Gottfredson drew the character in the 1960s and 1970s.
