During World War II, Claire becomes engaged to pilot Frank. When he’s reported missing in action, she is “not interested in men anymore!” Assigned as Dan’s secretary, they are in the Empire State Building in 1945 when it’s struck by an airplane. Dan rescues Claire and they fall in love. However, visiting a veteran’s hospital, Claire discovers an amnesiac Frank. He recovers his memory and Dan withdraws, because Claire feels she must honor her previous engagement. However, Frank confesses he married someone else during the war, so Claire is free to wed her true love Dan.

Amy comes from a poor family and is deprecated by her wealthy cousin Pamela, who also steals Amy’s boyfriend Bill. After graduation, Amy goes to work as an usherette in a cinema rather than attending drama school as she wished. Pamela wins a date with movie star Edmond Oliver in a contest but Amy takes her place. However, Bill sees them together and makes a scene, as does Pamela when she arrives. Bill and Amy rescue Edmond and Pamela when they drunkenly drive into a river. Pamela claims it was Amy in the car with Edmond but Bill explains the truth and he and Amy reconcile.

Dance teacher Cora wins a dance contest but is mocked by dance critic Mark. They fall in love and Mark takes a job as director of the “European Ballet” company to earn enough money for their marriage. Star dancer Wanda causes Cora and Mark to separate. Wanda injures her leg while trying to hurt Cora and Mark blames Cora. Cora fills in for Wanda at the premiere and makes Mark’s show a success. He learns the truth of Wanda’s accident and asks Cora to be his partner in the ballet and in life.

She writes a novel and her boyfriend and agent Harry schemes to reunite Diana and Tex for publicity purposes; Tex thinks Diana now loves him, but learns he’s been tricked again. Harry also arranges to have Tex rescue Diana at a rodeo. Diana’s novel becomes a bestseller and is adapted to the movies but Diana is unhappy. She flies to Arizona and apologizes to Tex, whom she now loves.
