Chuck Barnum; Judge Helen Forbes; Mr. Larue; Wade Robinson
Helen is appointed a judge in the magistrate’s court. On her first day, she acquits Chuck of a robbery charge solely because she’s attracted to him. That night, Chuck visits her and they begin an affair, even though she discovers he’s working for gangster Larue. Chuck and his gang try to use Helen as their alibi after a robbery, but she denounces them to assistant district attorney Wade and the police, receiving a gunshot wound in the process. Helen decides to quit her job and marry Wade.

When Mary nearly commits suicide, Patty meets the doctor treating her, and falls for him. They become engaged, but Doc learns of her past and walks out. Patty humbly apologises to everyone she’s wronged: Doc overhears and they reconcile.

After one last frame-up, Harvey plans to drop out of the race, but Gale says she’ll help expose Eames and his gang so honest Harvey can win.

Newspaper editor Rod promises reporter Barda a promotion when columnist Henry retires. However, Lola, the publisher’s daughter, has Henry fired and takes the job herself. Barda learns Lola is paying the destitute Henry to ghost-write her columns, so she sets a trap. Lola is forced to confess she did it in order to woo Rod romantically. Instead, Rod proposes to Barda.
