Bloodmaster is hired by Jeremiah Hopper to take out one of Hopper's political opponents. As a show of his skill, Bloodmaster kills 3 of Hopper's thugs immediately. Just as they discuss the details of Bloodmaster's contract, Bloodmaster kills Hopper as well. He'd been hired to kill Hopper by the same man Hopper wanted dead. Wanting no witnesses, Bloodmaster proceeds to kill the 4th thug.

Escaping from Georwell, the Justice Machine takes Maxinor on his offer to house them. They contact Hammett Dash, founder of New Haven, a technological utopia. The city is completely self-contained and self sustaining, including food and energy needs.

Bloodmaster frees Killgore as a distraction for the Machiners as he attempts to kill Hammett Dash. Diviner discovers him and the two battle, resulting in him slicing through Diviner's cape and crippling her. The Machiners defeat Killgore and stop Bloodmaster from killing Hammett, Blazer, and Diviner. But, Bloodmaster escapes the heroes by posing as a citizen of New Haven.
