Hazel falls in love with crew team coach Jim on the rebound, but jealousy causes her to trail him to a crew meet at another school and make a scene. Jim breaks up with her. Hazel vows to change her ways. Learning of this, Jim returns and they reconcile.

Fashion magazine editor Kathy is reunited with her fiancé, photographer Tommy, after six months apart. Kathy criticizes Tommy for his lack of ambition. He breaks up with her. Kathy discovers her own career now seems boring; she realizes a woman must support the man she loves even if she disagrees with his life choices. She asks Ray Mann how to win Tommy back. Ray prefers to have Love Diary readers do his work for him, requesting their advice via letters.

The Marshall family (unemployed chemist father, mother, and 3 children, including Amy) find work in the Shay orchards. Amy’s father tries to convince Frank Shay to invest in his locust-killing formula, but is rejected. Amy falls in love with orchard foreman Dave. Frank makes advances to Amy and orders the family to leave when she rejects him. However, after her father’s chemical saves the orchards from a locust infestation, Shay apologizes for his actions and agrees to back Mr. Marshall financially. Amy and Dave will be married.
