Peter, Dragonel, Beetle, Mouse and Sammy Sweet are busily making plans...
Dragonel disguises as a hornet knight in order to enter the Wheatfield Castle. Dragonel and Beetle enter the bridge chain control room, so that the bridge can be lowered letting Peter Wheat and his cohorts in; but Beetle and Dragonel are both caught. The Wizard sets up a fight between Dragonel and Peter Wheat.

The folk of the Wheat Field are harvesting. Chicky lets a cart go too fast and it gets out of control; they are swept down the river and captured by a hawk. Peter and Beetle rescue Chicky with the help of Blue Jay.

Beetle and Baby Mouse go down to the dungeon to check on the Wizard. The Wizard tricks Beetle and manages to escape and disguise himself as Beetle. The Wizard tries to use his disguise to trick a Giant into attacking the Wheat Field; he fails but manages to escape. The Giant joins the Wheat Field folk for Thanksgiving Dinner.

No explanation is given to this difference in the size of Santa's helpers.

Although it is early in the year...
The Grand Wizard hides in the water wagon when Peter and Beetle go searching for water. Two hornet knights attack the wagon and end up setting it on fire, causing the mice drawing the wagon to panic. The runaway wagon sets fire to the dry fields, threatening a complete disaster, and only a convenient rain shower saves the day.

Peter joins them, but his magic powders don't work on the queen, and the leading gnome takes the Queen and Peter to Father Time who is finally able to wake her up.
