Synopsis: In post-World War II Shanghai, "White Russian" Tanya learns the Communists will deport all Russians to the USSR when they take control of China. Tanya bails reporter Johnny out of jail in exchange for marriage, planning to divorce him when they reach the USA. Johnny refuses at first, because he loves Tanya, but eventually gives in. Tanya discovers she actually loves him, and arranges to have him picked up by the police so they can reconcile.

When the police arrive, Jim tries to use Jane as a hostage but falls off a roof to his death. Danny will recover.
