Subject Matter
anthropomorphic
Yogi Bear; Boo Boo Bear; Ranger Smith; Boris Groozily (monster-bear husband); Groana Groozily (monster-bear wife); Gruntly Groozily (monster-bear son)
Hey, Boo Boo Boy, I don’t recall being in this section of Jellystone Park before, do you?
Yogi and Boo Boo inadvertently wander into a barren, creepy section of Jellystone Park, which Yogi assumes was probably destroyed by a forest fire. There, they meet “The Groozilys”, a monster-bear family (not unlike the then-popular TV “monster-families” The Addams Family and The Munsters). The Groozilys consist of a husband, wife, and son - the latter of whom is so huge and, presumably, hideous that he is never seen above chest-high, except in complete silhouette at story’s end. The Groozilys show their guests some monster-bear hospitality, until Yogi and Boo Boo flee back to Ranger Smith.

This story reads in a similar fashion to the various Hanna-Barbera cartoons with the “J. Evil Scientist Family”, which were written by Michael Maltese. In addition to his body of animation writing, Maltese also wrote scripts for Western Publishing, making him a good bet as this story’s author.
