The “flirtatious and party seeking” Joan has many boyfriends and wants to find a rich husband, while her “pretty but homey” sister Connie is happy with Andy. Joan rejects the lecherous Marty and decides to steal Andy from her sister. Insanely jealous Marty catches Andy and Joan on a date and tries to kill them, but dies himself in an automobile accident. To reunite Connie and Andy, Joan pretends he was nothing but a passing fling to her. She hopes to find real love herself, some day.

Susan refuses to marry Ted before his overseas military deployment, fearing he’ll be killed. They break up. Vivian, a lady on a nearby park bench, tells Susan the story of her long-ago romance with Jim. She wanted to wait to marry until Jim finished law school and became successful. Vivian turns down other suitors, but Jim never comes back and one day she learns he married someone else. A lifelong spinster now, Vivian urges Susan to marry Ted right away and the young couple is happily reunited. After they’re gone, Vivian greets her long-time husband, Jim. She lied!
