Flat broke
Destitute and looking for a fast buck, Heckle and Jeckle construct a Magic Telegraph Box that "will telegraph PEOPLE instead of MESSAGES" and test it out by "telegraphing" Heckle to China, where he returns with chop suey as proof of his journey. They mass-produce the boxes and make a fortune off of the multitudes who wish to travel rapidly and cheaply. The inevitable flaws in the Magpies' plans soon reveal themselves, leaving them as broke as they began the story.

There are apparently TWO eight-page Heckle and Jeckle stories titled "The Urge to Travel" - BOTH drawn by Jim Tyer. This one and also a story reprinted from an as yet unidentified original source, and reprinted in Heckle and Jeckle (St. John, 1951 series) #23 (June 1955).

In the other story titled "The Urge to Travel", Heckle and Jeckle leap into their "wishing machine" and find themselves in 1836 South Dakota. These two stories are not to be confused.

The used car Heckle and Jeckle buy in this story is a "Larchmont Four, 1930 model". Like New Rochelle, NY (the home of Terrytoons), Larchmont is also a town in New York's Westchester County - the suburban county directly north of New York City. Coincidence? The comics regular setting of "Terrytown" is probably a play on Tarrytown, NY, also in Westchester County.

Great Bit: Quoted verbatim from the text:

"Sometimes the Chief of Police himself would drive past wherever Dimwit was stationed.

"'I wish we had MORE DIMWITS in this world,' remarked the chief to his driver. 'If there were MORE DIMWITS instead of wise-guys it might be a more peaceful and honest world!'

"'You sure said a mouthful, Chief,' said the driver. 'There'd less crime with MORE DIMWITS around.'"
