Stenographers Lee and Marcia spend their vacation at the ritzy Cedar Lodge. Lee falls in love with Tony, even though Marcia discovers he’s a gambler who “has a girl in every summer resort.” Lee and Marcia argue. Back in the city, Tony proposes to Lee then asks her for a loan for a "business" proposition. Lee gives him her father’s insurance money only to learn he’s a swindler. Tony is arrested. Lee will date Ralph, a member of the district attorney’s staff who exposed the scam.

After school, Anita works as the social secretary for the wealthy Mrs. Darrow, and pretends to be her employer's niece to impress fellow student Don, whose father is also rich. Anita asks cook Mrs. Darren to pose as her “aunt” and hosts Don at the Darrow house until the masquerade is spoiled by the arrival of Mr. Darrow. Anita is embarrassed but Don says he knew all along: the Darrows are family friends and he was aware Anita wasn’t their niece. It doesn’t matter, because he loves Anita.

Frances spends her youth studying piano and at age 21 is awarded a scholarship to the Memorial Conservatorium. Her teacher says she will never be great until she knows love, so Frances picks up fellow student Alec and pretends to fall in love with him. On the eve of her concert, Alec proposes marriage but Frances admits she doesn’t love him. Her concert is a failure and Frances realises she did love Alec. They are reunited for her next concert and this time she plays with love in her heart.
