Ralph Gray; Helen; Dorothy Bradley; Susie; Bill Bradley; General Lloyd Marston
Helen is upset when her boyfriend Ralph breaks a date to visit an old Army buddy in the hospital. As a child, the death of her parents meant Helen was sent to live with her older sister Dorothy, who criticises her husband Bill for loaning a sick friend money. Bill is later killed rescuing another man in the factory, and Dorothy tells Helen “all friends are false" and people should only care for themselves. Helen carries this belief into adulthood. She asks lecturer General Marston for advice and he says she should correct her mistake. Helen meets Ralph at the hospital and they reconcile.

As with several stories in the previous issue, one character--in this case, "General Lloyd Marston"--seems to be portrayed as if he were an actual, real-life person making a "cameo" appearance. However, this cannot be confirmed.
