Conchita convinces her father to send her to university in the USA, over the objections of her fiancee Manuel. She falls in love with Johnny there, but has to go home when her father is killed. Manuel urges Conchita to marry him; when Johnny doesn’t answer her letters, she agrees. An epidemic of hoof-and-mouth disease strikes their cattle, and Johnny is one of the American doctors sent to help. He and Conchita realise her aunt intercepted their letters to keep them apart. After a thrashing, Manuel confesses he poisoned the cattle. Conchita marries Johnny.

Laurie Hale; Guy Cummings; Mr. Parks; John Kelly
Laurie, an employee of a corrupt political “machine,” urges her boyfriend Guy not to run as the party’s mayoral candidate. When he does, Laurie embarrasses him at a rally and is selected by the reform Citizens Party as his opponent. Guy’s party reveals that Laurie was once in reform school, so Guy quits the ticket. He and Laurie reconcile, and she steps aside so Guy can take her spot. Guy wins the election and marries Laurie.
