McGann's father & step-mother are killed on the orders of Sangiacomo, who she was trying to put away. Joshua discovers his father had been a costumed vigilante before WW2, and decides to inherit his secret identity. One mob witness is killed, and the other, Andrea Beck, is forced not to testify when her mother is kidnapped. Joshua becomes romantically involved with Andrea, then discovers the assistant D.A. is working with Sangiacomo! Back home, Joshua is attacked by CIA agents, and at a meeting with his former boss, comes to an uneasy alliance.

Complex story reads more like a film script than a typical comic-book. Artist Gray Morrow apparently based several characters in this story on known celebrities, including Jose Ferrer, James Stewart, Peter Strauss, Jackie Gleason, Bruce Lee and Dean Martin.
