When Lucifer arrives in Effrul for his duel with Amenadiel, he is attacked by assassins sent by Lord Arux, who is in league with Amenadiel and Remiel. Mazikeen chases Susano-O-No–Mikoto, who has two feathers containing Lucifer’s power, to a clockwork castle run by Scoria the Artificer, who claims to be Mazikeen’s husband.

Lord Arux sends two more assassins to kill Lucifer, a creature named Braid and a paranoid cherub called Virtus. Lucifer kills Braid but his body is inhabited by the cherub. Mazikeen is beaten by Scoria before he shows her his greatest accomplishment: he has drilled into the very mind of God.
