Rita; Gary Palmer
Gary Palmer arrives in the California mountains to write a story on a festival celebrating their Spanish heritage. The school assigns Rita, their best history student, to explain their local customs to Gary. Rita and Gary fall madly in love but he has contempt for the sleepy town, calling it half-dead. Rita loves Gary but tells him she loves the town more and if he doesn't then they can't stay together. At the festival ceremony the mayor makes a humbled Gary an honorary citizen. Realizing his error he runs to Rita, asking forgiveness and asks to marry her in Bellano.
