This story is a modernized version of 'Rainmaker', written and drawn by Tim Conrad, a back-up piece in Jack Kirby's Captain Victory And The Galactic Rangers #10 (Pacific, April 1983). Conrad's version is set in 1937. The rainmaker leaves town when the townspeople refuse to pay him for breaking the drought; the implication is that the rain will continue forever. John Holland's revamp, which does not credit Conrad, is set in the 1980s. Its rainmaker at first seems to do the job for free but, when the townspeople beg him to stop the deluge, demands a baby as payment.
