In ancient days, the great jungle tourney was held each year--fought to the death.
A great wrestling tournament is held each year by the tribes. The winner meets the Phantom to rule the jungle for one year. This year, an escaped convict steals the Phantom's costume and is mistakenly matched against the tribal champion. The real Phantom has to set matters right.

Part of the celebration of Pirate Day at Bengali-town is that everyone dresses up as pirates, complete with a "sack of treasure." Three robbers take advantage of this to rob rich party-goers of their jewelry, but run into a problem getting away with the loot.

In the jungle there are many legends told and re-told around native campfires-
Every year on the same day, a child's wooden rattle is left on the Skull Throne, but no one know where it comes from or why. This year the rattle appears on schedule, but the same night, the crown of the Llongo chief disappears mysteriously. The Phantom investigates old chronicles from 1656 and goes to find the "Little People" to try to solve the mystery.

Beyond the jungle, the highlands -- realms of the princes who still live in medieval power and splendor.
Prince Orq trespasses in the Phantom's lands and is humiliated by the Phantom when he attempts to flog a small boy who has prevented him from shooting a tame deer. The Prince sends three killers after the Phantom, offering them pardons and treasure in gold. The three find the Phantom and wish they hadn't. Prince Orq sends his whole army after the Phantom, but the native guides cleverly take the army on an impossible route.
