The Who's Who has Mayo working at Chesler 1944-46, but only lists the Dan Hastings feature. Panel six on page five of this story has graveyard headstones bearing the names C. Goodman and O. Eppers. The Who's Who gives Charles 'Chip' Goodman as writer and Otto Eppers as penciller/inker at Chesler in 1945. Eppers may have been involved with the art. Elsewhere in the issue he is credited with inking Joe Beck funny pages.
