The strip's masthead proclaims "The Daleks by Terry Nation, As featured in the BBC TV series Dr. Who". However Nation, who created the Daleks for that programme, did not write the comic strip. The then script editor of Dr. Who, David Whitaker was the writer. TV21 editor Alan Fennell has said he also had input on the first, three part, storyline "Genesis Of Evil".

Although the stories in The Dalek series had no titles given in the comics, John Ainsworth suggested some 'episode titles' which were accepted for use by Doctor Who Magazine and some reprints. He based these titles on his own research and on discussions with the creators of the original strips.
