Although the photo on the cover is supposed to represent the Stingray story in this issue, it is actually of the US Army Sidewinder vehicle from the Thunderbirds TV episode "Pit Of Peril". At the time of this issue's publication the Thunderbirds series was still almost six months away from transmission. The "Pit Of Peril" episode was written by Alan Fennell, also the editor of TV Century 21, and the writer of the Stingray comic strip and this (and most other) issues cover copy.

Although the stories in The Dalek series had no titles given in the comics, John Ainsworth suggested some 'episode titles' which were accepted for use by Doctor Who Magazine and some reprints. He based these titles on his own research and on discussions with the creators of the original strips. The title 'Power Play' is derived from Ainsworth's episode guide.
