Please be quiet, gentlemen -- the subjects subconscious is releasing Dr. Crane's thoughts now!
Mandrake performing in London is recruited by British Intelligence to help locate the missing Dr. Crane. Using hypnosis Mandrake is able to pull information from Mr. Larkin concerning Dr. Crane's experiments, he discovers that Dr. Crane had invented a weapon that only destroyed life, not buildings, and that he wanted to prove that knowledge to his nation's enemies to force peace. Underestimating his enemies abilities to force the delivery of knowledge he demonstrates his Proton Bomb, and is taken prisoner. Using hypnosis Mandrake is able to create enough confusion to free Dr. Crane.

Using the SOS Drum Sambani attempts to capture the Phantom and take over the Jungle. But the SOS Drum is sacred, and while forced to desecrate it Dardo makes sure the Phantom is able to escape the trap set, and the Phantom wins free upsetting Sambani's plans.

Mandrake could not believe that the spirit of a man could return in human form -- even a spirit as fiece and terrible as the feared Pancho Valdez.
Pancho Valdez and his gang terrorized the South until the gang was destroyed in a trap. Using the legend of the Pancho's survival an new terror is presented to the town of Tacko, and is recruiting. The sheriff attempts to take him, and is gunned down so Mandrake tries to hypnotize him into jail, but it doesn't work, and neither does any of Mandrakes other tricks. His tricks do work on Pancho's henchmen though. Ultimately Pancho's bad eyesight and glasses were the reason Mandrake couldn't affect him, and were the cause of his downfall.
