In June 1972, the First Line tracks their captured teammates to an abandoned warehouse in Cleveland. They fight Nocturne, and what appears to be the Red Skull and the Invaders. Meanwhile, President Nixon wants to use the First Line in a mission of domestic subversion, much against the protests of Jacob Scott (secretly Effigy) and the Black Fox. In order to stop Nixon, Effigy contacts Bob Woodward, a reporter at the Washington Post. Cassandra Locke has been thrown forward in time to the 1990s, where she witnesses Yeti's encounter with the Human Torch (Johnny Storm) and meets the Fantastic Four.

The story sequence featuring the First Line's battle against Nocturne, the Red Skull, and a team of phoney Invaders takes place in June 1972. Cassandra Locke's story sequence occurs more than two decades later, in events that were previously chronicled in Fantastic Four (Marvel, 1961 series) #99.

Cassandra Locke's previous chronological appearance was in issue #4, her next chronological appearance is in issue #3. Her log entry in this issue is 126-7-33.

Effigy is revealed to be "Deep Throat" in this story, the unnamed source that helped Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein publically reveal the secrets of the Nixon Administration. In 2005 in the real world, it was revealed that former FBI Associate Director Mark Felt was Deep Throat. Bob Woodward began meeting with Deep Throat in June 1972.

First appearance of Vulcan.
