This image is an homage to the traditional pose of Atlas lifting the Earth. In the story, Atlas (not Superman) reenacts that pose.

Lois and Jimmy arrive on the scene of the fight between Atlas and Superman. At Science Police headquarters, a woman is monitoring the situation, and directing the remaining officers against Atlas. Atlas flashes back to ancient days, when he was at war. At the end of a battle, he is suddenly grabbed into time, and watches the years pass quickly by, which overwhelms him. After awakening, he finds himself in the present under the control of a general. They come to an agreement; Atlas will fight Superman while the general monitors and studies Superman. There is then another flashback, where it is revealed that Atlas was sent away, and ended up with the general. Superman recovers from the first round with Atlas, and is ready for round two.

Control [Rachel; Chameleon Boy]; Barrington; Steel [John Henry Irons] (cameo); Bibbo Bibbowski (cameo)
Superman and Atlas are fighting on the streets of Metropolis, with Lois and Jimmy watching. Superman is losing, and not sure why he is so weak. Lana Lang is monitoring the fight from LexCorp headquarters, and tries to activate Team Luthor to help Superman, but finds that aiding Superman violates the terms of her contract, and is fired. Jimmy spots a mysterious man watching from above at the edge of a building, and photographs him. Supergirl hears the fight, and arrives to help out, only to be blasted with a ray from a satellite, controlled by the mysterious man. Superman tells Supergirl to find out more about the ray, while he continues the battle with Atlas. Atlas knocks him unconscious, but then Krypto arrives.

Chapter Four: Man of Yore, Dog of Tomorrow

Story  on  Interior Page(s)
Subject Matter
superhero
Superman awakens after being knocked out in his fight with Atlas, and sees Krypto battling Atlas. The mysterious man watching is ordered to blast Krypto with the ray from the satellite that downed Supergirl. But it's ineffective against Krypto. Even hit with more powerful blasts, Krypto still continues his attack against Atlas. Atlas proclaims Krypto as "magical", which causes Superman to limp away from the battle, promising Krypto he'll be back. Superman finds Zachary Zatara in Metropolis, and gets him to construct a brief spell that will give Superman extra sun power for up to a minute. Back at the fight, Krypto is finally tiring, but Superman arrives and pounds Atlas beneath the ground, defeating him. In front of all Metropolis, Superman proclaims Krypto as the hero in this battle.
