Donald is a volunteer firefighter, but his enthusiasm cannot compensate for his ineptitude. His mistakes result in successive demotions from hose man to squirt man to wet sack man. When their own house catches fire, it is the nephews who save the day and they are rewarded with jobs on the firetruck.

The first two pages of games and puzzles include "Fun With Riddles," "A Simple Puzzle for Little Ones" and "Tony's Birthday Party." These are followed by four pages advertising a contest in which two adults and two children can win a seven day vacation trip to Disneyland, plus $1000. Following the four contest pages are another two pages of Games to Play in the Car: "Mystery Picture," "Merry Mix-up" and "Fun with Limericks." These eight pages are in the center of the book, between the first and second halves of the story.
