The original of this painting is signed Ballestar in the bottom right, below the edge of this cover.

This is the earliest known use of this painting on a comic. It has been used on non-comics publications, including:
- Pulp Western series, 'I Grandi Western' (La Frontiera, 1980 series) #27 ['Blowholers' by John Reese].
- Pulp Western series, 'Frontera del Oeste' (Cies, 2002 series) #199 (2008) ['Muertos en Alburquerque' by Marcial Lafuente Estefania].
- Western novel, 'Rough Justice' (Robert Hale, 2010?) using only the central front figure.
- VHS cover for Spanish release of the film 'Magnificent Three' (1963), titled 'Tres hombres buenos' (1980?).

Bonney is shot, but survives and is forced to work in the mines. His first attempt at revolt fails and Diablo decides to feed Bonney to the vultures. As the guards watch Bonney tied to the ground as vulture food, the other slaves lead a successful revolt. Diablo escapes with his vultures, but Bonney suspects he won't survive long when the birds are hungry.

Little Chief hears the story of Running Bear's ritual of fasting. Running Bear sees a vision of a flaming horse and hears the wings of a great bird. The two beasts battle and the horse wins. After Little Chief is accepted as a warrior, he undergoes his own ritual and sees a great white-feathered eagle descend on him and carry him off. Soon after, white soldiers visit his tribe and recognise Little Chief as a white man due to his blue eyes. He is revealed as Daniel Kidd, born 18 August 1805. The white men insist Daniel go with them.
