Don (U.S. Secretary's associate, a Venusian, death); unnamed U.S. Secretary of State (a Venusian, death); Dr. Bergson (State University Professor); Dickerson (Defense Department member, mention only); the Martians [unnamed Secretary of Defense; others unidentified] (villains, many die)
The Secretary of State calls in his trusted associate and verifies to him what both have feared: that Martians were already living on Earth. To prevent a panic, the two agree to try and locate the Martian HQ and destroy the top echelons, then have U.S. forces mop up the rest. They are surprised who the Martians actually are... but the Secretary of State and Don have a surprise for them!

Bored with his life of radios and people, Henry Short reads of the Neurological Institute of England perfecting a "free will" robotic machine, as it were. So, he visits the local library to get the plans and build one himself... but one that will also obey him. What he doesn't foresee is that the machine redesigns itself and improves on the original plans... with devastating results to Henry Short!

Mankind decided to test just how powerful the new Hydrogen Bomb was, and so a naval vessel took the device out into the Central Pacific, lowered it to its deepest part, then detonate it. At first, there was no reaction, then the waters began to boil and vaporize until the Pacific Ocean was gone... then other bodies of water disappeared, temperatures rose, plants shriveled up, animals fell dead, and then man knew he was next to perish.

Fred Davis (University President); unnamed bookie; Ernest Pavlonis (villain, physicist)
Physicist Pavlonis seeks employment at a university, but is told by the President Davis of the university that the staff has no openings. Later on, the scientist calls the university head and tells him that he has invented a time machine and wants to prove it to the skeptic man. Experiencing time travel, Davis decides to use this invention to make a fortune on horse racing. But the scientist has his own ideas after Davis threatens to smash the machine if the physicist will not sell it to him.
