The Volkswagen minibus which forces the villains' car off the road is being driven by The Greens, who appeared in a strip of that title in the 1990s Scottish underground comic "Electric Soup", written and drawn by this book's artist Frank Quitely. The strip was a parody of The Broons, which has been appearing in the "Sunday Post" newspaper since 1936: the licence plate on the minibus, G73 DDW, is a reference to Dudley D. Watkins, who wrote and drew The Broons from its beginning until his death in 1969.
